Fashion designer Radhika Singhi has aptly named her latest collection ‘Pushpa’ after her mom. After all, it’s Durga Puja and the Mother factor is definitely in! It’s that time of the year when the ‘F’ words, festival and fashion, are inseparable. Keeping that in mind, Radhika’s range of women’s wear consists of feminine and stylish ensembles seamlessly fusing varied influences. Lehengas, jackets, sarees, blouses and dupattas have been given a refreshing twist that looks both traditional and comfortable. Radhika says, “I have borrowed heavily from my mother’s wardrobe. I have combined orthodox silhouettes and prints with contemporary drapes. A modern working woman will be able to carry them off effortlessly without feeling cumbersome.”
True to her theme, Radhika has swapped petticoats for kalidar lehengas in south cotton teaming them with jackets, slinky cholis and Benarasi dupattas. Her range of sarees is four metres in length that can be draped over lehengas giving a playful twist to the conservative look. Threadwork, appliqué and graceful borders in floral motifs find prominence in her designs. She has ditched bling in favour of more subdued tones of gold, green, off white, green, pink and blue. Models Priyanka Pal and Priyanka Kohli along with Tollywood actress Swastika Mukherjee showcased the creations at Radhika’s store, ‘Threads’ at Ballygunge Place. Talking about her Puja plans, Swastika said, “Compared to other years, I have bought many more sarees this time. I have no plans as such. Friends, adda and loads of masti are certainly on the cards.”
